Error in Data in: “Final Visual Acuity Results in the Early Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity Study”

Error in Data. In the article titled “Final Visual Acuity Results in the Early Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity Study” by The Early Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity Cooperative Group published in the June 2010 issue of the Archives (2010;128[6]:663-671), 1 child was mistakenly coded as having poor visual acuity outcome in both eyes when, in fact, the visual acuity outcome was favorable for both eyes. The percentage of high-risk prethreshold eyes with unfavorable visual acuity outcomes reported in 2010 was 24.6% for early-treated and 29.0% for conventionally managed eyes. After making the correction, the correct percentages are 24.3% and 28.6%, respectively. The incorrect percentages were reported in the “Results” section of the Abstract on page 663, the second paragraph of the “Results” section on page 666, and in the Total row of Table 1 on page 666. Both the absolute difference in the percentages (4.3%) and the corresponding P value (.15) remain unchanged. The error does not change the results of the study.
