Endodrainage of Macular Schisis Through Optic Disc Pit

Ehlers et al¹ provided innovative intraoperative documentation of the drainage of schisis fluid through the optic disc pit. I endorse the authors' view that the optic disc pit is the appropriate site for drainage if draining is considered necessary for flattening the macula intraoperatively, as we have discussed in a forthcoming publication.² Although we did not use intraoperative optical coherence tomography, we have observed on several occasions the intraretinal or subretinal migration of the intravitreous dye used for staining the internal membrane as well as its aspiration along with schisis fluid through the optic disc pit, confirming the communication between the vitreous cavity and the optic disc pit (D.S. and J. Kalliath, MS, FRCS, unpublished data, 2011). Dye-assisted drainage through the optic disc pit has recently been reported by Marticorena et al.³ I may add the following observations to the authors' conclusions:
