The vascular lesions that are seen with the ophthalmoscope are sometimes at a distance from the gross retinal lesion. In some conditions the vascular disease is the cause, as in the hemorrhages into the retina and vitreous and probably in the deep hemorrhages of retinitis with massive exudation. In other cases the vascular conditions may be the result of primary retinal disease producing inflammatory and obstructive affections of the vessels.
