The book contains the proceedings of a glaucoma symposium held in Amsterdam in September 1979. Unfortunately, the ophthalmic literature today is swamped with such proceedings that are expensive, uneven in quality, often unedited transcriptions of oral presentations, and poor substitutes for a peer-reviewed journal or for comprehensive textbooks. However, unlike many proceedings, this book has some redeeming features. It has been published in record time, is well edited with few transcription errors, and contains several excellent and informative papers.
