Levator contraction with contraction of the external pterygoid muscle is the most common form of trigemino-oculomotor synkinesis originally described by Gunn.1 Since Gunn's report, other investigators have observed stimuli other than movement of the pterygoids that produce eyelid retraction. We observed unilateral eyelid retraction induced by a change from supine to a sitting position in a young child.

Report of a Case.  A 33-month-old girl was seen with lower eyelid cilia touching the cornea. In addition to this problem, her mother noted that the left eyelid retracted when the child would attempt to sit up. The eyelid elevation was first noticed at the age of 6 months, and the condition remained unchanged since then. The patient was born after an uneventful pregnancy and delivery.
